With Resident Evil Village opting to retread this sacred ground and falling short in the process, I’m worried that a full remake might fall to the same fate, but considering the trend of Resident Evil remakes, I imagine it’s going to happen whether we like it or not. Now don’t get me wrong, I can’t wait to see what it does with Leon’s journey on the new, more powerful consoles, but I also don’t want to come away from it feeling underwhelmed, to feel that perhaps the past should have been left exactly where it belongs. Only time will tell, but right now, I remain unconvinAs much as I love them, flashbacks simply don’t facilitate an approach like this. They’re an elusive manner of Environmental storytelling by design, providing brief snapshots of memories as we’re left to fill in the blanks for ourselves. It informed the overall tone and thematic delivery of the last game, but now that enigmatic atmosphere has subsided, it’s time to commit to something more definitive.

This train of thought originates from the remake of Resident Evil 3, which was a painfully underwhelming successor to the phenomenal remake of Resident Evil 2. The latter was one of Capcom’s best games in years, ushering in a new era of survival horror brilliance that I was confident it would build upon. With the arrival of Resident Evil 3 and Village, it seems it is opting for an action-oriented approach that won’t risk alienating those who aren’t willing to negotiate with horror. It’s the smart move, but creatively, it feels like a hollow one. Ashley is annoying on many levels. She is the stereotypical damsel in distress that can’t do anything while following Leon around. Sometimes there will be a garbage bin for her to hide in safely, but more often then not she’ll be tagging along just to get in the Nintendo has built up a cast of beloved supporting characters, so expand upon them and make them matter. Age of Calamity did a solid job of this, although I wasn’t a fan of its more eccentric approach to storytelling – still, it’s a good blueprint to follow if the overall tone is given a few much-needed adjustments. Breath of the Wild was so compelling because of the mystery that defined it, each hesitant step into its sprawling world rewarding us with riches and a freeform experimentation in gameplay that nothing in the open world genre has been able to match since. It’s a marvel, and something the sequel should build upon as opposed to replicating with only a few key changes.
In the mid-2000s, everybody and their mothers wanted to add in quick time events. It was supposed to immerse players more. While they still exist today, a lot of companies have learned not to be so strict with prompts meaning that a missed button press or two won’t result in a game o
Couple in character switching between Chris & Claire and multiple settings with their own puzzles (that often can’t be tackled in any order,) getting through _ CV _ can be a challenge– especially thanks to the harder difficulty curve. A remake could fix _ Code Veronica _ ’s design issues and mHowever, I think the first game was a stark indicator that this isn’t a company playing by the rules anymore. Knowing this, I’m hopeful Breath of the Wild 2 will be the most narrative-heavy Zelda game we’ve ever seen, perhaps even superseding Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess with the amount of dialogue it’s willing to subject us to. As long as it’s in service of a wonderful story, I’m more than happy to sit back and sink in.
While the multiplayer modes are still the main focus, Splatoon 3 incorporates single-player content as well, so players do not have to jump online to enjoy this third-person shooter. Although it has been out for a while by this point, the game is still very active, and that is likely to continue to be the case until a sequel debHowever, neither of these games encourage experimentation like Breath of the Wild does, so it’s much easier to provide us with an easier mode of traversal instead of artificially increasing the time required to reach our destination. However you slice it, these games viewed climbing in the rain and weapon degradation as negatives, choosing to build upon Nintendo’s vision by removing them entirely. I understand why games that adopt so many of the ideas pioneered by Breath of the Wild opt to change them, because every game is different and it’s unfair to tar them all with the same brush. That being said, I don’t want the upcoming sequel to follow in their footsteps. Nintendo needs to stick to its guns, favouring clumsy wet traversal and obscenely delicate weapons over an adventure that simplifies things to the point of triviality.
