There are a few things that always come up when you talk to someone about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild . Weapon degradation is one of the defining discourses around the game, with fans either despising the fact your equipment bursts into nothing after a handful of strikes or adoring how it forces you to think outside the box and constantly adapt your strategy to a changing inventory.Men are already in positions of power in these scenarios, so women are left to comprehend the opposite gender’s mistakes and find a way forward of their own accord. It’s empowering to an extent, although the fact that women are made to throw away what is seen as conventional beauty purely to grow into something one would define as independent still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. On the flipside, this rejection of traditional femininity is equally as groundbreaking, showcasing that societal norms aren’t something these heroines have to abide by. Other characters are often left shocked and outraged at these changing tides, but that’s the whole point – it’s a statement that’s supposed to inspire.
Bowser’s Fury takes a page from Super Mario Odyssey , dropping the plumber in a large open space filled with things to collect and challenges to compete. In terms of gameplay, it might just be the most unrestricted in the franchise, although Bowser does show up frequently to distract MaIt’s a symbolic gesture of growth, a sign she is able to move forward with an appearance that abandons the regal pretense of her namesake and the royal family she was born to serve no matter the cost. Zelda has long been bound by the shackles of her own lineage, and it’s something this iteration of the character will not be constrained by. She’s confident, bossy, and compassionate in a way that Zelda has seldom been before, and cutting ties with these other versions of herself through abandoning her golden locks is a fitting end to a character arc filled with misplaced doubt regarding exactly where she belongs in the world.
Ferren Barr is one of the Jedi survivors of Order 66 explored in Marvel Comics. He was a padawan at the time of the attack and managed to escape. He is one of the few people in the galaxy who learn who Darth Vader truly is. After hacking into the Imperial defense network, he finds out the truth about Anakin Skywalker and organizes a small army of followers to lead an attack on Vader and the Empire. Unfortunately, his mission ends in failure and with his death at hands of the powerful Sith LThe real wildcard is the new landmass that floats in the sky, a location that could throw everything we know out the window and incorporate a playstyle that is completely different from anything we’ve seen before. Link ( or could it be Ganon or Zelda? ) is capable of morphing through solid objects and flying through the air, so perhaps the need for climbing is obsolete in these circumstances. There are so many questions, but even now it seems Nintendo is acknowledging some of the previous game’s flaws and instead of removing them, is introducing diverse new gameplay ideas that provide other avenues of movement and traversal. Don’t just ditch the encumbrance of climbing in the rain or fragile weapons – instead, provide alternate ways of movement and combat that force you to rethink previously frustrating moments in a new way. Blatant removal feels like cowardice.
Given the trajectory of Capcom’s admittedly stellar remakes thus far, I’m unsure it will do such a thing. It could be the opposite, with reimaginings of Resident Evil remake Trilogy Evil 2 and 3 opting to trim the fat in favour of tightly executed scares and chaotic action instead of giving us time to stew in our own horrific, b-movie circumstances. Compared to everything that came before it, Resident Evil 4 was a completely different beast. It took the clunky controls of the franchise and morphed them into a third-person shooter experience that felt deviantly modern by 2005 standards.
